This course is designed to equip remote viewers with the skills and understanding to improve their ARV accuracy, plan and execute ARV projects and strategically apply ARV in sports betting and financial markets.

Whether you’re managing an ARV team or working solo, this course delivers the essentials of target selection, judging and project management alongside its focus on the viewer themselves as an essential part of the equation.

ARV is a “black box problem” where many factors affect performance. Some of these we can control and some we can’t. So as well as discovering where we can most effectively apply ARV, we’ll also look at what it can’t do so well. At the cutting edge of information theoretical understanding in psi phenomena is the Model of Pragmatic Information: we’ll learn about this fascinating model and investigate its implications for our ARV practice as well as RV practice and psi phenomena more broadly.

In remote viewing discussion, the human experience often gets forgotten amidst the technicalities and techniques - not here! This course lays a solid foundation of technical material regarding ARV, but it has a special focus on how we as viewers can improve and maintaining ARV accuracy by paying attention to our physical, mental and emotional selves. We’ll cover topics like emotional blockages, negative beliefs and money from both psychological and energetic perspectives. The techniques covered can be applied to create a regular, personalised self-care routine and to troubleshoot issues as they arise.

Learn the basics, gain insight from the pros and explore the ever-moving limits of what we can achieve with our remote viewing practice.

Main Learning Outcomes #

Basic Operational ARV: Be able to set up and run a basic ARV project yourself. Understand the basic mechanics of ARV and a selection of approaches and protocols.

Optimising ARV: Learn how to select good ARV targets, create good target pairs, remote view efficiently, judge easily, protect your energy and apply ARV as part of a disciplined approach to betting or investing.

Understanding ARV as Personal Psychic Functioning Gain personal insight into yourself as an ARV practitioner, learn skills to identify and overcome difficulties. Setting goals and getting in alignment with your desired outcomes.

The Big Picture: ARV in the Real World Relate your individual perspective to the world at large and lenses like psi, karma, and the trickster effect. Setting goals and getting in alignment with your desired outcomes. Examine what’s inside and outside your locus of control in order to direct your time and effort effectively.

Bouncing Back: Adapting to Change and Working in a Team Appreciate the uncertain, dynamic nature of this practice and be prepared for the ups and downs which affect solo viewers and teams alike.

He hosts The Psychic Guys podcast, founded the Second House RV Group (who regularly predict the future), and moderates the largest online community of remote viewers. As well as mentoring aspiring viewers, David regularly runs remote viewing workshops for complete beginners in order to help more people directly experience the non-local nature of human consciousness.

When he’s not remote viewing, David is particularly interested in the overlap between RV and esoteric spiritual traditions, and how RV can serve as an adjunct to spiritual practice. He can occasionally be found giving lectures and presentations on topics around the overlap of transpersonal psychology and remote viewing. David’s previous professional background is in archaeology, software engineering and life sciences. David lives in North Yorkshire, UK.

Over the years, David has trained and shared ideas with individuals who have had great financial success with ARV. He founded Second House Group as a pure ARV group to apply that learning.

A genuine desire to learn/improve the skill of Associative Remote Viewing.

Participation is important. Some of what this course teaches is inner work: you cannot learn it by taking notes but must learn by doing.

Can spend anything from 2 minutes to an hour a week on homework (variable, usually less than an hour) every week

Associative Remote Viewing (ARV) can be used to get an edge in the market, but it’s not a magic bullet or a get rich quick scheme. In this article I’ll outline the financial maths that I’m using with Second House Remote Viewing Group to squeeze the most edge out of ARV while maximising our profit over time.

The Setup #

ARV doesn’t work without an existing trading/betting strategy. It’s a tool you can use to increase your % of winning trades, but it’s also going to increase the number of trades you don’t take. So this article assumes the following:

you’ve got a system for finding trades/bets to make

you have a figure for the probability you’ll win

you know how much profit you’ll make if you do win

you know how much you’ll lose if you… lose

Without ARV #

Let’s keep it simple and look at a sports bet. This could be any kind of bet, so long as it’s a single binary choice: win or lose, and nothing in between. The probability \( p \) of winning is 0.7 (i.e. 70%) and the payout \( x \) is 1.4 (so if we bet $100, we’ll get $140 back with a net profit of $40).

graph LR;
A["Bet $100 p=0.7 x=1.4"]-->B["Win, gain $40 p=0.7"];
A-->C["Lose, lose $100 p=0.3"];

With ARV #

We use ARV as a filter. We find a bet we might like to take, then we run an ARV target to attempt to test whether we’ll win or not. The bet has a probability of winning, the ARV has a nominal probability of being correct. We’ll assume that’s 60% for this example, but it’s variable. ARV will tell us “bet” (✅) or “don’t bet” (⛔)1. Now our process looks like this:

graph LR;
A["p=0.7 Bet"];
A-->B["Correct ARV ✅ p=0.6"]-->W;
A-->C["Incorrect ARV ✅ p=0.4"]-->L;
A-->D["Correct ARV ⛔ p=0.6"]-->P;
A-->E["Incorrect ARV ⛔ p=0.4"]-->Q;

P["Avoid $100 loss p=0.18"];
Q["Avoid $40 gain p=0.28"];
W["Win, gain $40 p=0.42"];
L["Lose, lose $100 p=0.12"];

As you can see, this changes the game:

probability of gaining $40 has dropped from 70% to 42%

probability of losing $100 has dropped from 30% to 12%

probability of doing nothing has risen from 0% to 46%

For the bets we actually make:

78% wins (70% without ARV)

22% losses (30% without ARV)

So this is our edge. Great - now what?

How Does This Affect Our Strategy? #

One striking thing about the above example is that we went from taking 100% of bets without ARV to only 54% of bets with ARV. We’ll look at the impact of passes later, but for now we’ll optimise the performance of those bets which we do take.

To understand a problem, it’s often best to start with the edge cases:

If we take a bet with a 100% chance of winning, ARV can’t help us do any better!

If we take a bet with a 0% chance of winning, ARV can’t help us either!

Between those extremes, ARV can help us.

But which bets are best for us to take in order to maximise our that benefit (our edge)? This depends on how accurate our ARV is.

If our ARV is right only 55% of the time, we actually gain the most edge by taking bets with a 47% chance of winning. With ARV, 52% of the bets we take are winners. Five more percent, not bad.

If we can get our ARV accuracy up to 70% then we can take bigger risks - here our optimum is to take bets with a 40% chance of winning. After ARV, 61% of the bets we take win - 20 more percent - nice!

Ohh, how wrong they were. Now there was a brief window of maybe a couple of months around age 16 when I could still remember how to work out this formula, but thanks to AI there need never be another.

<details>

\( p \) is the optimum bet risk, \( a \) is the ARV hit rate. Click here to see gratuitous mathematics deriving the following:

100% credit to Grok for the following explication:

The filtering system is modeled as a binary classifier that predicts whether a bet will win (signal to bet) or lose (signal not to bet), with both sensitivity and specificity equal to \( p(\text{hit}) = a \) (assuming \( a > 0.5 \) for the system to provide positive edge).

The filtered win probability is:

$$p(\text{win})_\text{filtered} = f = \frac{a p}{a p + (1 - a)(1 - p)},$$

where \( p = p(\text{win})_\text{raw} \).

The edge is:
$$e = f - p = \frac{a p}{a p + (1 - a)(1 - p)} - p.$$

To maximize \( e \) with respect to \( p \), compute the derivative \( de/dp \) and set it to zero. This yields the quadratic equation:
$$(2a - 1) p^2 + 2(1 - a) p - (1 - a) = 0.$$

Solve using the quadratic formula:
$$p = \frac{ -2(1 - a) \pm \sqrt{ [2(1 - a)]^2 - 4(2a - 1)(- (1 - a)) } }{ 2(2a - 1) }.$$

The discriminant simplifies to \( 4 a (1 - a) \), so:
$$p = \frac{ -(1 - a) \pm \sqrt{ a (1 - a) } }{ 2a - 1 }.$$

The root that lies in \( (0, 1) \) and corresponds to the maximum is the one with the \( + \) sign:

</details>

$$p = \frac{ -(1 - a) + \sqrt{ a (1 - a) } }{ 2a - 1 }.$$

So that means what, exactly? #

Let’s look at this on a chart.

Find your ARV accuracy on the x axis. For Second House RV Group right now that’s about 63%. The solid blue line tells you the win-probability of a bet to take which will maximise your edge over the market. The dotted blue line shows what your probability of winning that bet will be once you filter using ARV at the given accuracy.

As ARV accuracy increases:

the two lines get further apart (meaning we get more edge)

the solid blue line slopes down (meaning it’s optimal for us to take slightly more risk and hence hopefully get large returns)

the dotted blue line slopes up (meaning we’ve got an overall better chance of winning, even though we’re taking riskier bets)

Great!

While both betting and ARV are binary pursuits with no room for shades of grey, alas upon combining them we cannot help but notice the rather wide “grey area” across this middle of the chart. These are the bets we do not take. The darker grey at the top shows the bets we would have won if we’d taken them and the lighter grey at the bottom shows the losing bets which ARV has saved us from making. This can be a bit of a problem…

Cost of Passes #

ARV seems simple at first glance, but getting it right is hard. Maintaining accuracy over time is hard. Setting up the targets really well is hard. The whole thing is a tightrope walk. The upshot of this is that it’s hard on the viewers - the human beings doing this stuff behind the numbers - and if you’re not careful it can take an energetic and emotional toll on them which crashes performance.

As such, Second House group limits viewers to a maximum of one ARV session per day. The whole team works each target, and while we usually have consensus, a handful of % of the time we are unable to make a prediction.

We can see from the above chart that more than 50% of the time we don’t place a bet. Either because the ARV didn’t produce a clear answer or - much more likely - because it did and that answer was a “don’t trade” signal.

Optimistically assuming the viewers are able to consistently do six targets per week, that means we’re going to be betting on average only three times per week.

So even though ARV makes a profitable strategy more profitable, it can also slow it down. There’s two times this doesn’t matter:

A group of Remote Viewers pools their resources and works to build capital at a relaxed pace.

Trading or betting where you were going slowly anyway.

If you’re betting/trading every day and are profitable, the edge provided by ARV may well be wiped out by slowing you down. In other words, it might be more profitable to be less profitable faster than to be more profitable slower. You need to take this into account.

Cost of ARV #

Because ARV is hard to do consistently well and a niche market, it’s not cheap. If you’ve got four viewers and a tasker/analyst/administrator on the team, that’s five people’s skilled labour, probably on an unforgiving schedule. It’ll set you back at least $500 a pop. And remember some of those ARV targets are going to tell you not to bet/trade. So you need to be be making thousands of dollars profit on each win for ARV to make sense as a turnkey service. If you are, and your activity fits in with the above in terms of risk and schedule, then for sure give me a call and we’ll talk.

Of course a group of viewers working for themselves just have their time and availability to worry about. If you’ve got the skills and the group works well together then it’s a fun way to make yourself a lot more profitable! If this is a skill you want to develop I’ll be running a five week Associative Remote Viewing Masterclass in association with IRVA starting April 2026, so obviously check that out!

If you made it this far then I hope this has helped demystify the economics of ARV as a tool to improve betting and trading. It works, you can do it, and I hope now you’ve got a better idea of whether it’s a good fit for your particular application.

There are other ways than ARV to play the markets with Remote Viewing. Ways which are much less effort and gentler on the viewers. This is playing the long game - an approach for investors - using RV to look at actual reality rather than just abstract probabilities and charts. This will be the topic of a future article.

Binary ARV is designed to choose between two discrete outcomes. Sometimes, the RV sessions aren’t good enough to pick an outcome, and we have to “pass”. If there’s time and the viewers are willing then you can just run the ARV target again with a different pair of images. Bit if there’s not time (or budget), then sometimes you’ve just got to accept that ARV hasn’t delivered a conclusion. For a skilled team this rare, but it occasionally happens. I’m not factoring it into calculations here to keep things a bit simpler and because passes will vary per team/project. ↩︎

In this conversation with the wonderful Emma Elizabeth I give an introduction to remote viewing, define how remote viewing is different from other psychic modalities and answer some common questions about developing psychic abilities, meditation and altered states of consciousness.

Emma was brave enough to try a fully blind remote viewing session live in our recording and she did great, but as the target is only revealed at the end, you can play along at home too!

If you’re interested in remote viewing and want to give it a try for yourself, this is a gentle introduction where I’ll guide you through acquiring a basic description of a target.

If you haven’t read Dan Brown’s adrenaline packed thrill ride The Secret of Secrets yet then go buy a copy now. It’s a great read, but it’s more important than that. It’s the best researched portrayal of extra-sensory perception, remote viewing and non-local consciousness of 2025. Multiplying that with its wide audience, I’m hoping it can make a big contribution to public awareness and understanding of psi phenomena.

I’m not going to deal with some of the more sensational aspects of the story here (no spoilers!), but I want to break down this one paragraph and clear up some common misconceptions.

Just this one paragraph.

So let’s start from the bottom and work our way up!

“A mind unrestrained by locality” #

Locality is the notion that cause and effect must travel in an unbroken chain through time and space. Like one billiard ball striking the next and so on. You read these words on your screen: photons travel into your eyeball, your brain decodes the pattern of light into words, then into concepts, and you get my drift. This is how reality seems to work. But it’s not how it actually works.

The 2022 Nobel Prize in physics was awarded for research which proved the universe is not “locally real”. “Real” here means things have properties independent of being observed. Locality, the paragraph above.

Of course those scientists could have just asked Leonard Cohen and saved themselves 30 years, but science is is slow to discover in the outer world what mystics have known to be true in the inner world for millennia.

It’s coming from the feel
That it ain’t exactly real
Or it’s real, but it ain’t exactly there

Leonard Cohen (Democracy, 1992)

So reality (or unreality, whatever) is non-local, but what about the non-locality of mind? Not brain. Mind. Mind is the phenomenon we experience; our thoughts and our awareness. The brain is an organ which seems to have something to do with that phenomenon, but the evidence piles high (e.g. veridical near death experiences) that mind is separate from brain and can exist without it. There’s even a recent-ish case of a French civil servant who was found to be missing most of his brain yet carrying on a perfectly normal life. It’s a funny old world.

What does it mean for mind to be non-local? #

It means that changes in the phenomena of mind can happen without a Local cause. One practical upshot of this is that we can perceive things at a distance (in time as well as space) which are not perceptible by our physical senses. This is known as extra-sensory perception (ESP), or in the language of The Secret of Secrets, non-local consciousness.

Remote Viewing is a powerful though slightly geeky subset of this. All Remote Viewing involves ESP, but not all ESP is Remote Viewing. What separates Remote Viewing from other forms of ESP the most strongly is that remote viewers are blind to the target - that is, they are not given any information at all about what it is they are to describe. This way, we know that - when they do describe whatever-it-was - that they perceived it non-locally.

Mind IS non-local. Your mind, my mind - everybody’s mind.

For one thing, the evidence suggests that mind does not emerge from the the physical matter of the brain (although some will disagree with me on that) and is therefore not subject to the limitations of Local causality upon the brain.

And for another, if your brain is Local then it’s not Real, so it’s not restricted to Local causation anyway, because nothing is.

It’s one thing to understand this intellectually - to think that this might be true - but it’s quite another thing to know it to be true. This is why I’m so passionate about running Beginners’ Remote Viewing Workshops.

My beginners workshops give normal people with no special abilities or training the direct personal experience that their awareness is non-local. That our awareness literally transcends time and space. It’s an idea so crazy that you really need to experience it to believe it. And the madness of it all is that it’s really not that hard to do! This fact has profound implications for how we understand ourselves and live our lives.

Aren’t you just trying to sell me a….? #

No - I want people to experience this for themselves. Fortunately you can do so for free. Zero investment. You need a pen and paper and about 20 minutes. Follow this 100% free Beginners’ Guide to Remote Viewing and see for yourself.

“Consciousness can view what is happening in remote locations” #

This is true, but it’s not the half of it. This idea is more accurate if we make it much broader: we can perceive non-locally.

One big misconception about Remote Viewing is that it’s about viewing. So it’s not a great name, but we’re stuck with it for historical reasons. While remote viewers do often perceive visually, we actually use all our senses, as well as “just knowing” things1. Neither are we restricted to perceiving sensory data through the “correct” channel: a person might “just know” that the thing they’re trying to describe is orange, or they might see a mental image of a wooded valley to convey the idea that something is natural. This is a big topic for another day. But the takeaway here is that Remote Viewing isn’t just about viewing. It’s about perception. Remote Perception would have been a better name, but hindsight is a wonderful thing and Remote Viewing has stuck.

We can perceive non-locally. This is very useful if you’re in dire need of information you can’t get any other way. 39th president of the USA Jimmy Carter certainly thought this was pretty cool, and you should too.

There was only one instance that I’ll talk about now. We had a plane go down in the Central African Republic—a twinengine plane, small plane. And we couldn’t find it. And so we oriented satellites that were going around the earth every ninety minutes to fly over that spot where we thought it might be and take photographs. We couldn’t find it. So the director of the CIA came and told me that he had contacted a woman in California that claimed to have supernatural capabilities. And she went in a trance, and she wrote down latitudes and longitudes, and we sent our satellite over that latitude and longitude, and there was the plane.

The Gospel According to Jimmy | GQ. (n.d.). Retrieved 8 January 2026, from https://www.gq.com/story/jimmy-carter-ted-kennedy-ufo-republicans

Another common misconception is to assume that because our perception is non-local, that the thing we’re perceiving must have its own locality. To think that it’s information from one place (the remote viewer’s target) somehow travelling to another place (wherever the remote viewer is). In fact, we can perceive information which does not have a location.

Where is the result of that soccer match next week?

Where is the change to your product which will boost sales?

Where are the secret ulterior motives of that new CFO you’re thinking of hiring?

Where is pi?

All these are types of information we can get with Remote Viewing, yet none of them have a physical location. This shows us that not only does our awareness transcend time and physical space, it’s actually perceiving in the realm of mind - or consciousness - not (just) of matter.

Remote viewers can describe things which don’t exist, or don’t exist yet, or existed in the past, or which might or might not happen, or which or exist entirely in the imagination. They can describe dreams, conspiracy theories, abstract concepts and more. If it can be described, a remote viewer can describe it.

Does consciousness leave the body during remote viewing? #

Is a remote viewer “projecting his consciousness out of his body … freeing it from its local bonds … and letting it materialize effortlessly anywhere in the world”? Yeah, no. Or at least, not necessarily.

Out of Body Experiences (OBEs, sometimes also “Astral Projection”) are a well documented phenomenon. These tend to be very immersive experiences, often with the sensation of leaving the physical body. It’s dramatic, it’s fun, it’s a real thing that you can learn to do. But it’s not necessary to do this in order to perceive non-locally and it’s not the method that professionals use almost ever.

Out of Body Experience is a related but distinct phenomenon from ESP, remote viewing or non-local consciousness.

This idea is present in various forms in the world’s spiritual traditions: that humans have one or more “energy bodies”, made of some subtle matter not yet scrutable to physical instruments, which is capable under certain conditions of becoming detached from the physical body. This subjective experience is undoubtedly a fundamental part of the human experience, emerging as it does across cultures and occurring spontaneously to individuals who’ve never even heard of it2.

Phenomenologically, all that we can say for certain in terms of ESP is that it is possible for humans (and animals) to be aware of information non-locally. There are countless theories of the mechanics behind this, often involving the word “quantum” and a lot of hand waving, energy bodies, spirit guides, precognition - you name it and there’s a theory. The trouble is that none of these theories make novel testable predictions. ESP is an incredibly difficult thing to study, both in practical terms and philosophical: it is very difficult to design experiments to validate subjective experiences as accurately describing the mechanics of existence when the only way of measuring these phenomena is via… subjective experience.

Anyway, we do not need to go to all this trouble of leaving our body in order to perceive non-locally. Which leads nicely onto the next remote viewing myth…

Meditation & Trance #

If reading The Secret of Secrets has you curious about non-local perception then you might be relieved to hear that testing this for yourself does not require either meditation, trance or any other altered states of consciousness.

If you’ve ever vegged out in front of the TV, you’d have entered a so called alpha brainwave state. Basically, you’re relaxed. There are other brainwave states which are relevant to ESP, in fact all of them, but you don’t need to be in some rarefied or weird state in order to get started.

Nevertheless there is some truth here, but to say we must meditate and enter trance is over-simplifying it.

A daily meditation practice will train your mind. It is likely to improve all aspects of your life through greater relaxation and mental clarity. It will also improve your ability to perceive non-locally. Eating healthily and getting enough sleep will also improve your ability to perceive non-locally, but some incredible feats of psychic perception have been performed under the influence of alcohol and drugs, and by non-meditators. The lesson here is not to let perfect get in the way of good. We’re never done learning, there’s always some way we can improve, but the important thing is just to get started.

Altered States and Trances #

Remote viewing absolutely can be done in a trance state. In fact, early phases of the US military research on remote viewing were done this way. A “mind awake, body asleep” state of very deep relaxation helps reduce mental noise, and can dramatically improve the “bandwidth”, particularly for visual perception. If clear visuals are what you’re after, this approach useful.

In practice, really great visuals seem appealing but are often not operationally useful. In terms of problem solving, usually we want an answer to a question or a description of something. Strong visual perceptions are useful for ‘who’ and ‘where’ questions, but much less so for ‘why’ and ‘how’.

The trance approach also has its downsides. Being nearly asleep means first of all you can’t take notes, and secondly that your executive function is also half asleep. So if you need to explore the information at your target in detail, it’s harder to do because you can’t think as acutely as when in a more awake state.

The US military solved this problem by using a so called “monitor”, a person who would guide the viewer in a non-leading way. The monitor must also be blind to the target to prevent them accidentally transferring their ideas or bias to the viewer, but even then it’s tricky.

In the modern world of civilian remote viewing, most practitioners don’t have the luxury of the time or quiet to enter a deep trance, nor another trained person on hand to monitor them. Most remote viewers work in a relaxed awake state, taking notes and sketching on paper or a tablet. We sometimes do use trance states, but they’re not where we start.

It was the DIA, not the CIA. The CIA ended up with custody of the project right at the end, decided to end it for reasons other than it’s well demonstrated efficacy, and commissioned a report after the fact to justify this decision by pretending remote viewing didn’t work.

An online lecture for ICRL members and the general public on the implications for our understanding of consciousness we might discover through exploring our non-local perceptual ability.

*** REGISTER HERE https://icrl.org/meetup/2026-02-07-harker-meetu ***

This presentation examines Remote Viewing - the supernormal ability to perceive people, places and things otherwise shielded from the physical senses - as a starting point to examine the implications for our understanding of consciousness of the apparent reality and undeniable reproducibility of non-local awareness.

Starting with a little history and theory of Remote Viewing, we’ll look at how the experience of non-local perception can shed light on the mechanisms of perceptual processing, and how this maps to both modern neuroscience and spiritual models.

What can we do with Remote Viewing? What’s easier, what’s harder and why might that be? Can we understand these phenomena as precognition, telepathy, synchronicity - or are we really perceiving at a distance? What are some historical, mystical and mythological examples of this ability and how has it been understood in the past? Can a reductionist neuroscience approach get to the bottom of this, or do these phenomena exist in territory that can’t be examined in the lab?

All this, more, hopefully time for Q&A.

(If anyone has advance questions or topics they really want to see covered, please email to david@intuitiveops.pro before February 2026.)
